(Mérida Colonial)
In the typical colonial style of Mérida, this house has the entrance room, or sala. (Notice the orginal pasta floor tiles, found throughout the house.)
Located 1/2 kilometer from Santiago Park,
you're only a block away from a main street going into centro, easy to
catch buses or collective cabs. Coming home, they'll drop you off at
your door.
Since this
street is one of the main bus routes, the first bedroom (just to the side of the sala) can be a little noisy
during the bus hours, although the attached garage does cushion the noise. This bedroom has a twin bed, A/C, sky-lights,
closed closet, and a small desk.
To the rear of the sala is the dining room, and to the side of that is the kitchen. There's a full-sized fridge, a
small gas range with oven, a micro-wave, coffee maker and blender.*
There's also a closed cabinet (pantry) and a table for two.
In the
dining room, there's seating for 8 at the table. There's a sideboard,
and overstuffed chairs, and plenty of room to sit around after the meal
and chat.
The real “heart” of the house, however,
starts in the sitting room, to the rear of the dining area. Light and
airy, with two walls of windows and another TV, the bathroom and the second
bedroom open off of this room.
The second
bedroom has a double bed (you can request a larger bed, if you prefer), closed
closet, ceiling fan and A/C.
From the
sitting room, a large arched doorway leads to the courtyard. Potted plants, flowering trees, statues and a
variety of tile work adds to the charm in this area. To the right is a small covered patio with
loveseat. An open storage area is there,
and a small garden with your own lime tree.
To the left, the covered pool-side bar offers swim-up service to the
raised pool that has a stairway to the side and a pool ladder. Seating around two sides of the pool gives
you a place to relax with your drink, or just sit and enjoy the tropics.
And when you’re ready to go back inside, the
sitting room, with its comfortable seating and its open and airy feeling,
allows you to continue to enjoy the tropics.
